Fall is a fantastic time to wear all our loved, cozy and fluffy clothing…it’s a great time to gather all together and have a special coffee time or…
Wear our outdoor warm clothes and go for hiking on Pelion mountain! It’s not one way or another, but there are plenty of options to have fun on an ordinary autumn day.
One day like this, a November day, my boyfriend and I decided to have an outdoor activity. Who says that in fall you feel miserable and bored? You might feel a little bit, but instead of waiting till next summertime vacations, take advantage of what each season can give you…
That’s exactly how I felt when I started from Antonis’ Tasios guest house earlier this morning. I was sure that climbing up Pelion mountain, would be definitely a great experience. And so the journey began…

We left the safety of Antonis’ Tasios guest house and had a look at where we’d be heading to…well it was easy!
All we had to do was to follow the fog’s lead towards Pelion mountain. I grabbed a sandwich, a scarf and a proper pair of shoes and started straight up!
Tip: I was keeping in mind that in fall you never know when it’s going to rain, so a waterproof pair of shoes is always the best choice!
Our plan was to walk aside from the main road for approximately 6km and then to reach a location called ‘Mega Galanorema’, which means big blue stream. There, we would have some nice pictures on the big, but safe rocks.
Tip: At this point, make sure you’ve charged your camera’s battery and have an extra SD card as a backup…well it’s a hiking day of course, but wouldn’t you like to have a click on the following scenery?

Would you resist on having some nice effortlessly taken selfies over here?

Another pose here?
Absolutely yes!

After our photo captures, we had to moved on…we could either follow the stream all the way up to Pelion mountain, or keep going, as we did, on the main road and then follow footpaths through local farms.
Tip: I have to mention that the footpaths are quite smooth, which is important for someone who is an amateur in hiking as I am…
On our way, we had a look around and saw some local products and bio farms. We decided to move forward and visit Antonis’ Tasios bio farm to check out what’s going on in there. Luckily, due to November’s weather, the apples’ harvest time lasted longer than usual. So, it was a great opportunity to become a part of this ‘event’ and also ask more info for our hiking direction.

Antonis Tasios Bio Farm
As we were entering Antonis’ Tasios bio farm on Pelion mountain, we came across with an amazing combined view of mountain and the Aegean sea. All around us there were apple trees and a nice cool breeze brought us a fresh smell of apples, when they’re picked up by the farmer.

In the bio farm we had a break and we were so pleased to taste some apples, offered kindly by the farmer. And after that boost of energy, it was time to continue and move on a little bit more…we were pretty sure we had lots of things to explore.
The surrounding of Pelion mountain was wonderful and we’re so excited. We found interesting kind of mushrooms, but I tried not to taste them of course, cause only a mushroom expert could say if they’re poisonous or not. But it was worthy to capture them…and I did that so.
Some of the mushrooms were well hidden down the yellow and brown autumn fallen leaves, but so beautiful and colourful to instantly track them.
Tip: If you wish you could pick some and cook them, but if you don’t know any recipe, don’t worry!
At Zagora village you can taste local mushroom’s plates at the local restaurants and taverns. Easy peasy, innit?
Further down, or better say, further up Pelion mountain other seasonal fruits were ready to be tasted…are you thinking of pomegranates? Or chestnuts?

Wild chestnuts
That’s right! Wild brown chestnuts were on the ground like a carpet…a natural one. Such a wonderful sight… carefully we placed some chestnuts in our bags. Back at Antonis’ Tasios guest house we could roast some chestnuts in the fireplace and serve them with a red wine…mmm I was so excited, that I couldn’t wait!
But before leaving this heavenly place, we calmed our impatience down, because we had been informed that ahead us, we would find some old abandoned huts. Our curiosity won the game and so we moved on to explore that area!

The walk among the huts was splendid! As we were walking through those huts, we were wondering about the hidden history behind their walls. The reason why there were abandoned, but…
As the sun went down, it was time to climb down Pelion mountain and go to our cozy room at Antonis’ Tasios guest house at Zagora. Finally, it was time to rest next to the fireplace and roast those chestnuts we’d picked earlier.
