The Historic Library of Zagora was founded in 1762 by Ioannis Prigos. The founder Ioannis Prigos (1725-1789) was a merchant, a writer and a great benefactor of his origin Zagora. From 1740 until 1776 he had lived consecutively in Alexandria, in Venice and in Izmir, where he was forced to leave the city. Afterwards, in 1755 Ioannis Prigos moved in Amsterdam and became a trader.
